Autumn leaves and seeds were the focus of this weeks Creative Living Session at Alvaston.
The participants sketched the leaves in their new sketchbooks concentrating on line & shade.
I showed the group my sketchbooks & how I document my sources of inspiration; photos, leaves, feathers & petals. This sketchbook included the sketches of Trebah Gardens which inspired the children’s book ‘Tiny Ant’ which I illustrated, I compared the initial sketches to the finished book. I also brought in my ‘Carnival of Seeds’ collection of seed paintings on canvas too.
After lots of sketching & drinking cups of tea we looked at the colours of the leaves. We then mixed autumnal colours using primary colours and painted the leaves on watercolour paper. Here’s some of the colourful artwork:
